Australian Cameron Smith takes a four shot lead into the final round at Trump National in Bedminster. In contention is Jersey fan favorite, Phil Mickelson, who will be playing in the final group along with Dean Burmester of South Africa.
Smith at -9, is looking for his third LIV tour win after wining in July in London and in Chicago last year. Mickelson and Burmester are four shots off the lead. Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson and India’s Anirban Lahiri are all five shots off the lead.
Mickelson, one of the first big names to sign on to LIV is yet to make his mark on the tour. His best finish was eighth in Chicago in 2022 but for the most part he’s been in the bottom half of the leaderboard since competing on the tour. That’s not how anyone saw it going. Entering the final round he’s finally got a shot but he needs to chase down a tough Aussie who’s got a major under his belt and two wins already with LIV. The odds are not great but at least for this week the lefty is meeting the expectations.
