Off The Cuff…

I thought the Yankees-Tigers brawl was more entertaining than the McGregor-Mayweather fight.
Next year, when the two teams meet up for the first time, I say let’s have Gary Sanchez and Miguel Cabrera square up behind 2nd base for all to see. Maybe even call in Showtime TV to promote and air the event.
Unfortunately, it looks like Tim Tebow might get to play in a major league game for the Mets before David Wright does. The only sell out these days at CitiField came when Lady Gaga was in town. Way to go Jeff Wilpon!
The Yankees could not have asked for a better time for their pitching staff to get hot.
Sonny Gray has pitched to a league best 1.95 ERA since July 1st and has had 11 consecutive starts allowing only two or fewer runs, which is the longest streak in the majors this year.
Masahiro Tanaka’s 2nd half 3.26 ERA is much better than his 1st half of 5.47. Luis Severino had won six of his past seven starts with a 2.30 ERA before his loss to the Indians Monday night. Over that span of seven games he had 53k’s in only 43 innings.
I feel much better now that Starlin Castro is back in the lineup for the Yanks. He has hit safely in 3 out of the 4 games since coming off the DL, highlighted by a four hit performance on Sunday.
Hey Met fans, Jay Bruce has played 17 games for the Indians and is batting 311, with 4 dingers, 5 doubles and 13 RBI’S. Of course he would say he would be open to signing with the Mets as a free agent, only problem would be the Wilpon’s paying him what he is worth.

Watching the Seattle Mariners commit 5 errors in Sunday’s game made me think they should have been playing in Williamsport, PA, not the Bronx, NY. The 5 miscues were the most by an MLB team in one game since the 1977 Cubs.
I liked the Cubs much better when they played like the “loveable losers.”
I had the pleasure of spending a few minutes at Jets practice recently talking to one of my all-time favorite players, Joe Klecko. I told him if I had the ability to vote for him to be in the NFL Hall of Fame, he would have been elected by now, because I would have voted for him at least two or three times per year.
He roared with laughter and said, “I need more guys like you in my corner, thanks so much”, and he gave me a bro hug. I thought that was a pretty cool exchange.
Good thing Bryce Petty’s knee injury is just a Grade 1 strain and he won’t miss much time. I have a feeling we are going to need him big time at some point during the season. Congrats to Josh McCown for being named the Jet starting QB, just be careful for what you wish Josh.
Can anyone tell me why the New England Patriots have a number of Rutgers alum on their roster, and the Jets have none? Not only are they on the Patriots team, they play, and contribute.
The Jets do have two alumni from Columbia and Harvard, two football powerhouses that even the Scarlet Knights could beat.
Did anyone notice that there were no NJ High Schools, public or private, found in the USA Today’s National Preseason Top 25 Rankings?
To next time I wish you and yours nothing but the best in the world of sports, Cheers.
