Aussie Cameron Smith ran away with his third LIV title in Bedminster Sunday with a dominant seven shot victory. His team, Ripper GC won the team event and Smith earned a whopping 4.75 million dollar payday for his time in Jersey.
After rain swept through on Saturday it was an absolutely beautiful Sunday afternoon and the long challenging course was in pristine shape. Smith, was in control from day one with an opening round of 66. He was under par in all three rounds in route to his second LIV title this year, winning in London in July.
Phil Mickelson was finally in contention on Sunday and actually got within two strokes of Smith. But a meltdown on the par 3 seventh where he hit the ball in the water twice on his way to an eight ended any chances for his first win on the LIV tour. Mickelson ended up in tenth place at -1. India’s Anirban Lahiri was runner up at -5.
The LIV Golf stays in the states, moving to Chicago September 22-24.
