A few ruminations as we get ready to observe the what-do-I-do with the mid –
week holiday…do I take off Monday and Tuesday….do I take off Thursday and
Friday…or do I just call it a week and tell HR I’ll see you on the second Monday of
Let’s hoop it for starters, as the NBA proves once again that the off-season for
many is far more interesting than the regular campaign, where intrigue, suspense,
trade-machines, fantasy trades and it’s not my money are all in play. The King has
opted out…not a shocker, seemed like the prudent thing to do when you control
the destiny of multiple franchises in your very large mitts. And man, does the
Lords of Twitter love the man on the throne…the traffic, the volume, the
intensity, the opinions…with The King guarding his castle with CIA precision
(Btw…in my first summer reading in quite some time, picked up ‘The President is
Missing’ by James Patterson and Prez. Clinton…I give it five chlorine tablets…but I
digress). If you’re privy to the Commish, I’m sure he would love this to capture
the fan’s fancy for as long as possible. Forget about the agony for the teams. As
Michael C. said… “It’s not personal, it’s just business.”
The Cash Man sees what we see. If health is preserved, and The Bird Man can
finally flap his wings, the Boyz from the Bronx have their infield for the next five
years. No reason to go crazy with the double nickel. Garvey, Lopes, Cey and
Parker. How’d they do?
Serena is seeded 25 at Wimbledon. Sharapova is 24. What you want to see is the
new mommy play Cibulkova, who is pissed at her seeding because of the All-
England Club granting the new mommy a spot in the main draw. That’s what we
If you could re-create the World Cup atmosphere, soccer would have a chance on
stateside television. The atmosphere is incredible, and the passion is so real you
want to high-five the screen.
By the way…where are the Americans?
Odell took batting practice at the Stadium on Friday. Put one in the left field
stands. That’s not easy to do.
It is fascinating that probably one team in the AL Wild Card game will have won
more than 100 games…and will have to win a 1-game playoff to advance.
