There is no better day to rattle off a few things that I am thankful for than today, Thanksgiving! So, here are a couple of things that I have an attitude of gratitude for on this Thursday, November 24:
First and foremost, I am thankful to Steve Tichenor and Matt Loughlin for inviting me to join them here at More Sports Now a few years ago. They have given me a platform to write about sports, record opinions about sports, and even appear on camera talking about sports. Wow, for that I am greatly appreciative. Thank you gentlemen, I look forward to whatever the future holds for us here.
I am thankful that my Boston Red Sox are relevant again. Following a few seasons in which they were cellar dwellers, the Sawx won the American League East in 2016. Yes, they greatly disappointed in the League Division Series, being swept by the Cleveland Indians, but the future looks bright. Rick Porcello (27 years-old) won the AL Cy Young Award, Mookie Betts (24 years-old) finished second in the MVP balloting, and the club has willing and able prospects in the upper levels ready to join the fray. How many days now until pitchers and catchers report?
I am thankful that my alma mater, Providence College, has a credible basketball program once again. The driving force behind this is our head coach, Ed Cooley. He is not only a good X and O guy on the sideline, he is also a good man. Ed’s players will learn how to play winning basketball in a revitalized Big East Conference, all the while learning how to be upstanding citizens on and off the court. Well-done coach!
I am thankful that for once in a very long time, my brother-in-law Chas, will have a reason to root for his hometown Detroit Lions today. You see, they are tied for first place in the NFC North with the Minnesota Vikings, meaning a Lions game on Thanksgiving for once in a blue moon is not simply a “turkey”. This one has a little juice to it for a change and that is welcome news around here.
Lastly, I am thankful for my loyal readers. I truly appreciate your comments and look forward to them the minute I post each blog. So, thank you to: James Cook, John Charles, Al Arauz, Bonnie Winant, Adam Bain, Nick Biase, Eric Nieman, Jim Allen, and of course, mom. I apologize if I left any frequent M2S flyers off my list. Thank you too for stopping by every Wednesday.
Happy Thanksgiving from all of the good folks here at My 2 Sense (me).
