The Yule Log. Jimmy Stewart. Beautiful and unattainable car ads ( Btw…am I supposed to feel better, or worse for myself…but I digress). The Holidays mean different things to different people. And the way my brain thinks…back in the day, I would always wipe a tear at the WFAN Christmas Day lineup…Sid…Ian…Howie…Suzyn…The Schmooz….Radio Tel Aviv comes to Astoria! But it’s 2017, and what better to ring in the New Year than glancing at the monster TV to see some bad football.
Now, I was a first-hand witness to the good (2 NBA Finals), the bad (pick your year) and the ugly (12 wins in a landslide). So I have a little bit of insight into dysfunction. But when you suspend not one, not two but three different players….oh man, that’s a Star Trek level of craziness. True, there are more players to pick from in a football locker room…but this is the Giants… then again, they had 13 losses as of this writing. Losing is losing…regardless of your uniform logo or zip code. Now they have a GM. Soon they’ll have a coach. The Yuletide Log would be a good receptacle for the season.
The Jets have both a coach and a GM. Next.
So that was Sunday. How about the actual day of presents, when the NBA gives us one for each finger…five on the smart TV ( Btw…when I had the pleasure of sitting courtside on Xmas Day, always the noon game….TV execs did not dance with joy seeing the NJ uniform…but I digress). And here’s what we learned from this extended snapshot of December hoops.
The King is not dead. Far from it. And at some point he will welcome his new point guard to the flock. Do you think there is an adversary in the East that can slay him four time in a series? Didn’t think so.
As far as the West, the joy that is the Warriors can withstand the loss of Steph…not for an extended period, but in the short term. The Beard needs Paul, and the Thunder must, repeat must, have Russ. So let’s re-visit in April. It’s too cold anyway.
Happy New Year!
Public Service Announcement…New Year’s ‘Breaking Bad’ marathon on AMC. Nothing says couch time better than Walter White!
It’s not a great look at the FAN when the fill-in shows are better than the regular shows.
El Chapo’s lawyers say they haven’t been paid. I wonder if they would take a barter deal?
Did not see ‘The Crown’ breaking into my holy trinity of ‘Bloodlines’, ‘Billions’ and ‘Ray Donovan’.
