BY JOHN McALEAVEY | It’s that time of year again when the big ball In Times Square drops, ringing in a new year. With the dawning of 2016, it is time for some new year’s resolutions. Most often they have to do with getting in better shape/losing weight, finding a better job, stopping bad habits such as smoking or drinking (after NYE that is), etc. Those are all well and good; but I thought I would do a few sports related ones for myself, and also provide a few for some of today’s sports personalities.
In 2016, I, John McAleavey will…
- Try and shorten my My 2 Sense blog. I tend to be wordy, so in 2016 I will attempt to be brief and be gone.
- Try and pay more (okay some) attention to hockey. It has never been a love of mine; and so I truly don’t know too much about the game. If only I knew or worked with someone who was plugged into the sport… 🙂
- Allow the basketball team I coach to play zone defense a little more. I was always of the belief that good, hard nosed man-to-man defense was king and that playing zone was for teams that could not do it. What I have learned over my years on the sidelines is that good coaches and teams learn to adapt. Plus, I do know that running good zone offense is very hard; so I’m going to give more of the teams on my schedule the chance to try it against us.
Now, as for some suggestions for those famous sports figures (remember folks, I kid because I care):
Odell Beckham Jr. – I recommend some anger management classes. Also, I hope he continues his electrifying play on the field, just with less needless dancing and self promotion immediately afterwards. We get it; you’re good! Now just run back to the sidelines PLEASE!
Rex Ryan – If you are still the coach of the Bills a week from today, how about trying the subtle approach to the next season? Your way of bluster, bravado, and bloviation isn’t working.
Aroldis Chapman – In 2016, how about sticking to firing fastballs from the mound at Yankee Stadium, and not bullets from a gun in your garage (if the allegations are true).
David Ortiz – For your final lap around the league, can you please depart the batter’s box following a big fly a little faster my friend? I love your moon shots as well; but no one is bigger than the game, even Big Papi.
How about you, My 2 Sense readers, what are some resolutions you have for yourself? Please send them to me, and I will gladly post them here.
And that is My 2 Sense for this week and 2015. Thanks as always for stopping by and Happy New Year!
