Who doesn’t love the agony and the ecstasy…the chills and thrills…the rush of victory and the calamity of defeat? All of the games on TV? No….I’m talking about will the power company get you back on line before you have to put on three layers of clothes and run out of candles? What is this…Alaska? Two of these suckers in a week’s time…the satellite goes…then the power…and where is my guy who plows the 18 inches (Btw…seeing the hero in the bucket arrive at the scene to get that wire off the downed tree on par with Vince beating Toronto at the buzzer…but I digress).
Per YES: Yesterday’s Yankees spring training game out-rated two live regular season NBA games on ESPN, along with live regular season Knicks, Rangers, Devils and Islanders games on the MSG networks.

Big 10, Big East, ACC…the Big Yapple awash in live action. Plus a buffet of college hoops on a myriad of cable stations. But despite the throwdowns and beatdowns, the roundball and rebounds, the joy of victory and the calamity of defeat, it’s all about the Boyz from the South Bronx for viewers in the metro area. Last week, a Yankees Florida tilt, which means it doesn’t count, has no relevance, is just for fun, beat the Knicks, all three hockey teams and two NBA games on ESPN. And then this past Wednesday (you remember, it was raining snow) the Yankees/Mets game on SNY set a new ratings record for an exhibition game for the regional channel.
So there you have it…now only do the ladies love the long ball, but so does everybody else! It’s not even real, and there can’t be enough Pinstriped action to satisfy the masses. For the oldies but goodies, it brings them back to the M&M boys, when Mickey and Roger were going head to head, and belly to belly, trying to beat the Babe, one of their own. And can you imagine if we had ‘going viral’ back then…when the Mick was toasting the town, and Roger’s hair was falling out? Oh baby, my head is exploding. But we now have Judge and Stanton, the new Monsters off the Deegan, looking to take aim at the bleachers, the façade…and maybe even the Bronx Criminal Court building. It will be the Greatest Show on Earth! And if not?
The fans will still watch!!!
