More Sports Now is happy to have Rich Bauer provide us with regular updates while he’s on his annual stay in Port St. Lucie.
For me, late February into March rivals Christmas time or July weekends at Bar A down the Jersey Shore as the best time of the year. Spring training and college hoops come together in the warmth of Port St. Lucie, Florida. As a snowbird for the past 12 years, it never gets old. It just gets better.
One of my dearest childhood friends, Lee Koop, God rest his soul, used to sit in our spring training seats in the 2nd row behind the Mets dugout. Looking out to the pitchers mound, he would turn to me and say that it was like he had died and “went to heaven”. Well Koopie, no disagreement here.
Oh, by the way, did you see the Florida home of the Mets has a new name this year? No more Tradition Field. The new name is First Data Field…Not much better than Data Domain from a few years back!! Just shows the boys of summer play a kids game in the world of big business.
My sources tell me grapefruit tix’s to Met home games are burning up Stub Hub!
I am not one to think much of destiny, I am more of a “work-hard-and-it-will-come” kind of guy but the 2017 Spring Training season was kicked off the other day by the Mets and the Red Sox. Could these be the same two teams who close out the 2017 season in the Fall Classic?
If Syndergaard, deGrom, Harvey, Matz, the guys who stir the Met drink, have their say, their way and stay healthy and Cespedes realizes he makes more money on the baseball diamond than he does on the golf course (unless he’s playing against my foursome!) then, hey, the Amazin’s will be playing in October into November this year. Let’s not worry about the Cubs, Dodgers and JJ’s Giants for now.
I would like to thank the guys at MoreSportsNow.com for the opportunity to share my fun in the sun with all their followers. Don’t be shy, tell your friends to jump on board and visit the site. Hope to see as many of you as possible over the next month and bottoms up at Tutto Fresco’s outdoor patio bar!
