Man oh man, the Mommas and the Papas never saw this coming (Btw…50th anniversary of Woodstock this August…hotel rooms already gone in Sullivan County…and isn’t hooch now legal???…oh boy…but I digress). Not one, not two, not three, but eight men at the top on their respective pigskin teams asked to come to the main office…and bring your playbook! And even though the names are treated as inconvenient darts on the board, there is a human element. And if you want some perspective, take a few minutes and ready this essay by Austin Murphy. But it’s not the pros that caused me to go to the monitor.

Nope. This seems to be the season of The Manny. So Manny Diaz, defensive coordinator at Miami, agrees on December 13 to become the head coach at Temple. Kids de-commit from Miami, recruits approached by Temple.

But on December 29, Miami HC Mark Richt retires. And who replaces him? The former DC and soon-to-be HC at Temple. Manny being Manny!!

Free enterprise, free trade, free kick! Coaches go to the best table supplying milk and honey….but some have the gall to criticize a student-athlete, who’s in college with the intent of finding a job, regardless of the field, of sitting out a final game because….they see millions…they can taste millions…but if they get hurt…they can only wish for millions. Seriously? Coaches who make millions off the exploits of teenagers and young men can actually question a simple business decision…when these same coaches move from one job to another quicker than the newest Elon Musk super transport.
For example, Michigan State defensive end Kenny Willekes, Big 10 defensive lineman of the year, contemplating entering the draft, breaks his leg in the Redbox Bowl. Get his senior courses ready to go! Willekes and I suspect his family made the decision to play. But if they hadn’t…can you blame them?
“It’s not personal, Tom. It’s just business.”
R.I.P. to Marty Funkhouser, the late, great Bob Einstein. If you ever need a laugh…
Jets have the future of the franchise right in front of them. Do you really think having both the GM and head coach report to the owner is the way to go?
It may not be sustainable, and may not prove to be playoff gold…but man, Harden has been putting on a show.
The Johnnies (Red Storm, not Johnny Mac) just may save hoops at MSG this winter.
If anyone sees Dave, tell him we’re ready for another six-pack of guests on Netflix.
Tennis may be the only sport where you can have two G.O.A.T’s of different genders on the court at the same time…in shorts and sneaks and not evening wear! It was very cool to see Fed sizing up Serena’s serve in the Hopman Cup Down Under.
