It has been an eventful couple of weeks for Seton Hall Head coach Kevin Willard and his Pirates squad. What was once shaping up like a magnificent season (following big wins against Kentucky and Maryland in particular), now does not. In fact, their season has turned into a race to keep a bid alive for the NCAA tournament.

The Pirates have been on a skid since starting Big East play, losing 5 of their last 6 games. Streaks like this can happen in the conference though, as it is one of the strongest in the country. What has been most disappointing however is that the Hall has struggled to beat lower division teams like DePaul, Butler, and Providence. Winning their remaining home games is crucial to their final 8 game dash for a bid, and five of them are in the friendly confines of The Rock.

For this to happen, everyone knows it begins and ends with Myles Powell pacing the Pirates. As good as he’s been though, the man needs help. His teammates need to step up and fill their roles to their full potential. Take Sandro Mamukelashveli for example, in the beginning of the year he was developing into a force on the glass. As the season has worn on though he hasn’t been able to be keep it going. Myles Cale needs to get more involved in the offense, he’s too talented not to be, and Taurean Thompson is another one to watch as he has great potential on both ends of the court.

Seton Hall will try and get one of those home wins tomorrow night (Saturday) against Creighton. I will be there for the 8 PM tipoff, and so should you.
